Look, we get it - nobody actually enjoys reading privacy policies. But we're gonna be straight with you about how we handle your info. No corporate jargon, just honest talk about what happens with your data when you work with us.
When you reach out to us or work on a project together, we'll probably end up with some of your personal details. Here's the rundown:
We're not in the business of selling your data or spamming you with random offers. Here's what we actually do with your info:
We don't just hand out your info to anyone. But here's when we might need to share it:
Contractors and consultants: When you're working with us on a build, we'll need to share relevant details with structural engineers, contractors, and other professionals on your project team. They're bound by their own professional standards to keep things confidential.
Legal requirements: If the law says we gotta share something - like building permit applications or responding to court orders - we'll do that. Hopefully that never happens though.
Service providers: We use some third-party tools - email services, cloud storage for project files, accounting software. They only get access to what they need to provide those services.
Our website uses cookies - not the chocolate chip kind, unfortunately. These little bits of code help us understand how people use our site and make it work better. We use:
Most browsers let you control cookies in the settings if you want to adjust what's stored.
This is your data we're talking about, so you've got some control here:
Access and correction: Want to know what info we've got on you? Just ask. Think something's outdated or wrong? Let us know and we'll fix it.
Opt-out: Don't want marketing emails anymore? There's an unsubscribe link in every newsletter, or just shoot us a message.
Deletion: Once a project's done and we've met our legal record-keeping requirements, you can request we delete your personal info. There might be some stuff we're legally required to keep for a certain time, but we'll clear out what we can.
Data portability: Under Canadian privacy law, you can ask for a copy of your data in a format you can use elsewhere.
We take reasonable precautions to keep your info secure. Our digital files are encrypted and stored securely, our computers have password protection, and we limit who on our team can access client information. Physical documents are kept locked up when not in use.
That said, no system's 100% bulletproof. We do our best, but can't guarantee absolute security - that's just the reality of the digital world we're living in.
We hang onto project-related info for about seven years after completion - that's pretty standard in the architecture world and helps us comply with professional regulations. Marketing contact info we'll keep until you tell us to stop or it's clear you're not interested anymore.
Sometimes we link to other websites - maybe a manufacturer's site for sustainable materials or a consultant's portfolio. Once you click those links, you're on their turf and their privacy policies apply. We can't control what they do, so it's worth checking their policies if you're concerned.
Things change - new laws, new technologies, new ways of working. If we need to update this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. For major changes, we'll probably send an email to active clients too.
If something in here doesn't make sense, or you've got questions about how we handle your data, just reach out. We'd rather have a conversation than leave you wondering.
